Агент Интерпола Лариса Светлова расследует загадочное дело о похищении картин из Эрмитажа. Постепенно она понимает, что столь запутанное преступление невозможно раскрыть без привлечения к следствию того, кто сам промышляет кражами предметов искусства и имеет связи в криминальном мире. В расставленную милицией ловушку попадает Макс - вор, и по совместительству, продавец краденого. Условие следователей таково: Макс помогает в раскрытии преступления, или отбывает длительный срок в тюрьме. Лишенный права выбора, он соглашается и приступает к расследованию вместе с Ларисой. Факты, открытые Максом и Ларой, указывают только на одно - похищение картин лишь прикрытие для чего-то гораздо большего...
